Overview & Learning Outcomes

This is a complete microsurgery of the ear course aimed at practising otolaryngologists, SET 3 and above registrars and fellows. The course objectives are to improve surgical skills, introduce new clinical and surgical concepts and revise key topics in otology.

The course will include short, practical lectures and concentrate on properly supervised surgical cadaver dissection in the new, state-of-the-art CENTER at Ear Science Institute Australia.

Dissection will include modern and new ossiculoplasty techniques, laser stapedotomy, closed and open cavity surgery with obliteration and subtotal petrosectomy. Cochlear implantation with hearing preservation techniques and electrodes will be discussed and practised.

Overview & Learning Outcomes

This course will allow for almost 2 full days dissection time following short technique “how I do it” demonstrations in the lab. Only 3 hours are allocated for formal lectures over the full 2 days. The course is aimed at practising surgeons and registrars and both basic and advanced surgical steps will be demonstrated and supervised in the lab. The aim of the course is to provide maximum time to allow unhurried practice and dissection of common endoscopic and skull base procedures.
