Post Meeting Satellite Workshops

Wednesday 4 April 2012

8:00am - 5:00pm Balloon Dilatation Technology and its Application in ENT: Sinuses, Airway and Oesophagus:: A Practical Cadaver Course
Venue: Anatomy Department, University of Adelaide, Frome Road, Adelaide

Chairs
Professor A Simon Carney & Dr David Wabnitz

Registration for this post satellite meeting is only open to consultants until Thursday 1 March. Trainees may register to attend from Friday 2 March ONLY

Outline
Balloon dilatation is a controversial area of ENT yet its use has increased exponentially in the rest of the world over the last 2-3 years. This satellite meeting will examine the role of balloons in sinus disease, the larynx, trachea and oesophagus. The current devices available for the various sites will be discussed. Using cadavers, dissectors will be able to perform balloon dilatation of the maxillary, frontal and sphenoidal sinuses as well as in the larynx, trachea & oesophagus. Panel discussions will provide the opportunity for heated debate.

Invited Faculty to include:

Dr Ray Weiss (USA)
Associate Professor David R White (USA)
Dr Mark Ward
Dr Chris Brown
Dr Sam Arena
Associate Professor Suren Krishnan
Dr David Wabnitz

Learning Outcomes
1.To review the evidence and indications for balloon dilatation of the sinuses, airway and oesophagus.
2.With the assistance of cadaveric material, to learn the correct surgical technique for balloon dilatation of the sinus ostia.
3.With the aid of upper airway models and animal material, to learn the correct surgical technique for balloon dilatation of the larynx, trachea, pharynx and oesophagus.
4.To learn tips and pearls from experts in the field.
